This past Saturday, South End hosted the first ever Homemade Ice Cream Churn Off at the Atherton Market. What began as just a fun idea while on family vacation turned into a great community wide event. We had 6 different entries for our first Churn Off: Key Lime Yogurt, Strawberry Ice Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream with Walnuts and local Cloister Honey, Mint Chocolate Chip, Peach Ice Cream, and Mocha Java Ice Cream. Churning started around 10:30am and judging began at noon. We had an official judging round followed by a People’s Choice and Kid’s Choice. We were completely blown away by the response from folks who wanted to sample the ice cream. We served for over an hour and went through 1000 plus spoon

Overall Winner – Mint Chocolate Chip by Kristin Garber
People’s Choice – 1st Peach and 2nd Key Lime
Kid’s Choice – 1st Vanilla w Cloister Honey and Strawberry (tie) and 2nd Peach
