As you wake up this Saturday morning and plan your day, I recommend a trip to Atherton Market. We go to grocery stores to buy food but we go to farmers markets for an experience. Clearly you are getting the freshest, local produce and proteins around when you shop a market, but you get the social exchange of talking with the grower, learning about the product and more importantly…how to cook it. Roots Farm Food often has their food truck set up for local breakfast offerings (see my picture below from my chorizo breakfast tacos last week). You will also find a variety of educational components from gardening to cooking to grilling to who knows…come be surprised!
Atherton Market is part of Atherton Mill and you can walk to several other great retail shops and restaurants. Savory Spice Shop takes spices to a whole new level. Who knew spices could be so fun and fascinating. Luna’s Living Kitchen is a raw/vegan restaurant next to the market and a great place to taste the rewards of the local produce from the market. I know it’s still early but Vin Master Wine Shop is a terrific wine shop focusing on organic and sustainable wines. Big Ben British Pub, Zucca’s Pizza Tavern and Icehouse surround the mill offering several lunch and dinner options.
The market is now open 5 days a week, Tue-Sat from 9am to 2pm. Tuesdays they stay open a bit longer until 7pm. To see what is happening this Saturday see my earlier post South End Local Foodie Finder.
