South End is a unique urban neighborhood that hasn’t forgotten it’s historical past. It’s this combination of history and urbanity that creates a place filled with contrasting combinations that work so well together. Vintage Trolley cars and modern Light Rail, National chains and Local mom & pops, the high end Bang & Olufsen to the consignment shop South End Exchange, a Gallery Crawl to a Pub Crawl, Pewter Rose or Price’s Chicken Coop, Lowe’s Home Improvement or Little Hardware, red brick buildings to LEED certified.
This blog is about Historic South End in Charlotte, NC so whether you live or work in South End or are just visiting, I hope you will enjoy the stories of my experiences interacting with the people, shops, events, and eats that make-up this unique place.
My family and I had great fun participating in the Super flea this past weekend. It was a fun family enviroment! liam pearce was playing guitar,Marshall Gribble sold lemonade,Ashley Gribble and grayson deweyer sold jewelry. And three of the bruns kids joined their parents. having the kids participate really helped them enjoy the south end super flea
Posted by Laura Gribble | May 2, 2011, 6:58 pmThere is a super cool new shoppe in town…a truly unique retail establishment at Dilworth Court in Southend. SoBo LOFT will be a moderate to upscale boutique offering ‘out of the ordinary’ finds to customers on their way to a dinner at The Liberty or to a Bridal Shower at The Pewter Rose …or just out for a ‘Girlie Shopping Spree’ for the day. We want customers to have a total shopping experience by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We opened for business Saturday August the 20th. We will be having our grand opening gala in September. We will keep you guys posted. We are uber excited to be part of Historic Southend.
Posted by Randy Scott Green | August 21, 2011, 11:45 pmWhere is the best place to stay in or near the SouthEnd?
We are coming the first weekend in May and need some good ideas about where to stay and what to do. It’s a gals weekend of family members ranging from late 30s to early 70s.
Posted by Carrie | February 3, 2012, 6:06 amThank you for the question and glad you all are coming to Charlotte and wanting to check out South End! A couple recommendations for you all. Staying Uptown is a great option because you have a lot of different hotel options, plus you can get on the Light Rail and be in South End in a matter of minutes. There are 4 Light Rail stops through South End and you can experience a lot without needing a car. The other option I would recommend would be The Morehead Inn. It’s a much different experience from staying Uptown but still very close to South End. http://www.moreheadinn.com/
A few things to keep in mind about that weekend in terms of events. That weekend is the Wells Fargo Golf tournament. This event is my favorite event in Charlotte. The golf course is terrific, the houses along the golf course are spectacular and all of Charlotte is at the golf tournament. You can get day pass tickets and if you stay Uptown, they have a free shuttle that will take you to and from the golf tournament to Uptown so it’s very convenient. You will want to book your rooms soon as they will fill up quickly.
We host a Gallery Crawl in South End the First Friday of every month. If you come into town on Friday night you should have some time to experience the gallery crawl if you like. On Saturday night we will be hosting a fashion show that has really grown in popularity over the past two years called Fashion Soul. We’ll be hosting it at Amos Southend and it will be a wild, fun time, highlighting local designers. All the details for this event haven’t been posted yet but it will be a lot of fun. Finally, we have a year round Farmer’s Market called the Atherton Market and it will be open on Saturday from 9am-2pm. Farmer’s Markets are a ton of fun and I highly recommend you making a visit.
I hope that gives you some starting points as you plan your trip. Happy to answer any further questions. Feel free to email tboyd@charlottecentercity.org.
Thanks
Ted

Posted by wofford23 | May 16, 2012, 5:54 pmIs there room or a place to set up shop for locally handmade woodworking crafts to sell?
Posted by david | September 8, 2012, 11:50 pmThe best opportunity might be at the Atherton Market at 2000 South Blvd. They are open 5 days a week, Tue thru Sat so feel free to stop by and ask them some questions.
Thanks
