Saturday will be one of the busiest days with a lot of events happening during South End Soul and here is my quick overview of all the events so you can pick and choose and spend a morning, an afternoon, an evening or the whole day in South End:
Breakfast – Lots of great options but a couple of my favorites would be a bagel creation from Owens Bagel on South Blvd. Common Market has a great selection of breakfast sandwiches and wraps with vegeterian friendly options. Special this morning, the food truck Roots will be set up at the Atherton Market and offers a great local breakfast.
The Atherton Market opens at 9am and runs until 2pm today. They will have a full house of vendors from fresh, local produce to fish, meats, honey, breads, nuts, pickles and more. In addition to the market vendors they are having an earth day celebration and will have craft options for the kids.
Once you’ve got some local groceries, you can wander down Camden and check out the South End Super Flea. This will be the first Saturday for the Flea and have a few vendors out to get things started and build upon for subsequent Fleas. The Flea will run from 10am to 4pm.
Most of the Art Galleries open at 11am on Saturday and it’s a great time to tour the galleries as a family. The galleries should have guides but you can also pick up a gallery crawl guide at one of two info tents at either the Atherton Market or at the Flea Market.
South Ends neighbors to the west, Wilmore, will be hosting their annual Wilmore Day at the corner of Camden and Kingston. Wilmore Day will have a lot of events for the whole family and create that typical carnival, festival feel.
Keep wandering south on Camden and stop into Unexpected Finds. They’ve got several crafts for the kids but a cool space and lots of interesting merchandise to look at.
The NARI Home Remodeling Show will be set up inside the Atherton Mill from 10am to 8pm and is a beautiful show. Lots of experts in the field of home repair, remodel and landscape design. It’s free so stop in and get some advice.
Lunch: Again, no shortage of great options but if you are looking for true South End flavor then try Price’s Chicken Coop, Phat Burrito, Sauceman’s, Icehouse, Big Bens, or Pikes.
Lots of how to’s and contests as part of Design Your Life Festival and click here for a list of all those events.
Healthy Home Market on South Boulevard is hosting a beer tasting and they have one of the best selections so make certain you stop by to check it out and have a taste or two.
There is no shortage of great furniture stores in South End: Post & Gray, The Furniture Connector, By Design, South End Exchange…more than 12. Many of them are on Foster so stop in and check them out.
Come back to the Atherton Market at 6pm for the Slow Food Charlotte Coturri Wine event. The wine and dine will pair several local chefs with farmers market products to create a wonderful farm to table offering and will be paired with a Tony Coturri wine. Tickets are $50 and may already be sold out but would check early this morning at the Farmers Market.
Dinner: You can go high dollar or middle of the road but all will be good options from Sullivan’s, Pewter Rose, The Liberty, Carrabbas, or head back to one of the lunch spots for dinner. They all offer a great menu and all right in the heart of South End.
If you’re looking for a little flavor then make certain to stop into Common Market this evening for their 2nd Anniversary Sexy Power Party. In true CM fashion it will be a lot of fun and funky.
The finale event for South End Soul is Fashion Soul. This event is one of our favorites and will be featuring all local Charlotte designers and shops. The show is outdoors in the parking lot between Dharma and Marigny on Summit Ave. It’s free to attend the show with the pre-party starting at 8:30 and the show starting at 10pm. Fox News Anchor Morgan Fogarty will be the host and will be a great evening so hope to see you out.
I know I will be tired and ready for bed when this day is over but for now I need to end this post so I can go set up for all the things I just wrote about. Hope to see you out today…weather will be terrific!
