Charlotte Craft Beer Week Introduces Untappd Badge

Just when you thought you couldn’t get any more social than drinking a great craft beer with a good friend, enter Untappd. It’s Foursquare for beer drinkers or as I overheard one girl jokingly tell her friends, “It’s Beer Facebook”. Untappd (yes, that is the correct spelling) is a social media app that allows you to “check in” to the current beer you are drinking as well as the location of said beer consumption. You can rate the beer, share the info with your Untappd friends or other social media outlets like Twitter or Facebook, and you keep a little black book of sorts of the beers you’ve consumed and the places you’ve consumed them. Similar to Foursquare, users have the opportunity to gain badges based on any number of criteria, which creates a humorous, positive and aspirational spin to your beer consumption. You aren’t simply drinking 10 dark beers…you are also earning the Heavy Weight Badge which described by Untappd “You like it thick and dark. Your beer! What did you think I was talking about? That’s at least 10 dark beers.” Hopefully, you get the idea and yes….I have earned that badge.

Charlotte Craft Beer Week kicks off this week (March 16-25) and we are pleased to announced the first ever Charlotte Craft Beer Week Badge from Untappd. I think this is the first Charlotte beer event to ever have a badge on Untappd, but I could be wrong. South End is proud to be a sponsor of Charlotte Craft Beer Week and for helping make this badge possible! Below is the badge and the details from Untappd’s blog about how to earn the badge. Over 60 events are scheduled so make certain to lets us know what you are drinking and where through Untappd and make certain to hit up the South End events during CCBW2012!

The following is taken from the Untappd Blog
