Saturday is the big day at Atherton Market and wanted to shared what you can find this Saturday at the market as well as share some of the vendors you can expect to find. They are open Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. I’ll be there later getting some grass fed beef and free range chicken and eggs!
What’s happening this week at the Atherton Market?
There’s no avoiding it – spring is definitely here! In fact, the market is looking a little bit like May in March. Expect to see things like asparagus, some early strawberries, and lots and lots of salad greens and spinach, which are all loving this warm and periodically damp weather. Windy Hill also promises to have lamb back in time for Easter, so stay tuned to Facebook for updates.
With the onset of spring we’re pretty sure you’re thinking about your health and getting in shape. To help you along, we’re partnering with Evolution and TNT to offer Saturday consultations on nutrition and fitness related topics, as well as tips on what to buy from our vendors. Find Darnell Jones near the front door, and don’t be shy about asking questions or requesting a quick blood pressure check.
No matter what kind of diet you follow, we can work with you. Paleo? Check. Gluten-free? Absolutely. Vegan or vegetarian? We’ve got you covered. Omnivore? Well, that’s a no brainer. Wanting more fermented foods? Take a trip to Pickleville. Did you know Bill’s pickles aren’t acidified with vinegar? They contain probiotics, which are very good for you. And today he reintroduces pickled okra, a southern favorite.
If you have seasonal pollen allergies, the best thing you can do is ingest more local honey! Our own Cloister Honey makes it easy to do with lots of flavors and infusions that you can use in a variety of ways. Stop by and sample your way across the table to decide what suits you best.
In celebration of the return of warm weather, Monk’s is bringing back the iced coffee and tea beverages! Did you know they do pour-over in addition to standard drip coffee by the cup? And if you missed it last Saturday, we now have a vendor offering fresh squeezed lemonade. Check with Mark’s Fresh Lemonade for a refreshing treat.
Homer Simpson’s Skittlebrau’s got nothing on the new creation from Cardais Gourmet, the Brewmallow, a handmade, beer-based marshmallow dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with salted pretzels. And to support our local breweries, she uses customer-favorite “Coco Loco” from the Noda Brewing Company.
Whispering Willow is introducing a new Grapefruit Soap this week. In addition to the fresh uplifting sent of grapefruit, this soap is enriched with organic shea butter. Shea Butter is naturally rich in Vitamins A, E, and F, as well as a number of other vitamins and minerals. They’ve also added some pink kaolin clay which will gently draw impurities from the skin without removing natural oils while simultaneously exfoliating, cleansing and stimulating circulation. Sounds like a winner!
We’re going to be starting some construction soon, so stay tuned for information about brief periods of closing. We’re trying to keep the impact minimal on your shopping needs, though we have some exciting things coming up.
Keeping it fresh and local, Lynn S. Caldwell Atherton Market Manager http://www.facebook.com/athertonmillandmarket
