South End Community Day and Block Party, Saturday April 28th
Come join us on Saturday, April 28th as we will hold the first South End Community Day and Block Party. The day will be broken into two parts: Community Day, 9am-noon, a morning to volunteer for several beautification and clean up projects and Block Party, 5:30pm-10:30pm, food trucks, craft beer and live music on Camden between Park Ave and Tryon St.
Community Day Details
We are pleased to partner with South End nonprofit, the Charlotte CommunityToolBank to celebrate their first year in South End and to help facilitate a series of beautification and clean up projects in South End. We are looking for 50 volunteers to join us at the ToolBank headquarters at 121 West Kingston Street for Free Breakfast from Common Market and Registration between 8-8:45am. We will head to the project sites so we can begin work at 9am and conclude by Noon. To register to volunteer please visit Hands on Charlotte or email Ted Boyd at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will plant flowers, create some new flower beds, pick up trash, remove graffiti, clean up along the Rail Trail and an art project or two.
Here are some of the projects we will be working on: Flowers and Flower Bed (West Blvd and Camden, Park Ave and South Blvd, Park Ave on Office Side beds, Trolley Museum Light Rail side, Camden and Park Ave, Bed by South End Sign at Camden and Tryon, Bed by Wayfinding Sign at Chipotle, Replant Pots along Camden, Kingston and South Blvd, Kingston and Camden, Identify locations to plant Trees). Clean Up (Rail Trail broken down into sections, Graffiti Removal)

Block Party Details After a morning of volunteering, we will close Camden Rd between Park Ave and Tryon Street from 5:30pm to 10:30pm for a Block Party. We will have a stage set up on Gaines Brown’s lot at Park/Camden, food trucks on the street, craft beer, games in the street and live music. It’s an opportunity to come out, show your love for South End fellow South Enders and have a great time! Band lineup will be posted soon but should have 5 or 6. List for the participating food trucks to come shortly as well. It will be a blast so make plans to join us.
Food Truck Friday. Happening every Friday night (weather permitting) at the Lunch Lot at Camden and Park Ave from 5pm-9pm you can find a variety of Charlotte’s favorite food trucks. Alcohol can be purcashed from Common Market or Phat Burrito and brought unopened to the lot where it can then be consumed. Trucks change each week so look to www.southendclt.com for weekly details.

Friday, May 4th, 5pm-9pm – South End Gallery Crawl and Food Truck Friday – For both the May and June gallery crawls we will have a FREE Trolley Shuttle to help facilitate folks through South End and the Galleries. Gallery Crawl and the Food Trucks is a very popular evening so please spread the word to your friends and come join us! Gallery details will be posted on www.southendclt.com as we get closer to the event.
Saturday, May 5th, 10am – 2pm – Wilmore Day, our good friends and neighbors from the Wilmore Neighborhood are hosting their Annual Wilmore Day from 10am-2pm at Gaines Brown’s lot at Park Ave and Camden. It’s a fun day for the whole family to enjoy arts and crafts, food, face painting, music, raffles and more. Everyone is invited!
Saturday, May 5th, FashionSOUL – Going on it’s 3rd year, FashionSOUL has emerged as Charlotte’s most innovative Fashion Show which was birthed by South End’s Joey Hewell and incorporates many South End businesses and all LOCAL designers, artists and performers. This year the event will be held in Amos SouthEnd on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) with doors at 8pm. Tickets are $10 before April 20 and $15 after and day of show with all proceeds benefiting the Humane Society of Charlotte. Saturday, May 12th, 10am to 3pm – Cycle Charlotte. Cycle Charlotte is a bicycle festival promoting a friendly and safe urban BINGO ride where you can “Experience Charlotte Without a Windshield”. This fun event takes place on the final week of Bike! Charlotte and is a family friendly ride designed to encourage anyone who owns a bike to brush the cobwebs from their wheels, fill their tires with air, and come out to ride! Saturday, May 19, 9am-Noon – Firefighters Pancake Breakfast at Atherton Market. What a rewarding and simple way to support our Charlotte Fire Dept by consuming delicious pancakes (all ingredients locally sourced). The Charlotte Auxiliary is hosting this event yet again as they play a huge supporting role to the firefighters and their families. A plate of pancakes is $5 and we’ll have live music, fire trucks to examine upclose and all the fun of the Atherton Market.
