Market in the Morning, Movie in the Evening

Saturday morning just isn’t Saturday morning without a shopping experience at the Atherton Market. Atherton is Charlotte’s first, indoor, year round, all local farmer’s market and one of a couple markets that accepts EBT. The market has been doing a little remodeling to get ready for expanded days and hours in the near future. It’s such a great experience to buy your food from those who produced it and even get advice on how to prepare it. The market is open today from 9am-2pm and will have some special activities with the folks from Yoga Shala, Roots Farm Food Truck and more. The other great part is that Atherton Market has several restaurants nearby so you can shop the market and enjoy lunch inbetween. Zucca’s Pizza, Icehouse, Luna’s Living Kitchen, and Big Ben’s British Pub offer a wide variety. Also, make certain to stop in the Savory Spice Shop to get the right seasonings for all that great food you purchased from the market.

Come back to South End this evening for our first every Outdoor Movie and Food Truck Rodeo.

The South End Neighborhood Association in partnership with The Light Factory are hosting the first ever, South End Outdoor Movie Night, “South End Cinema”, this Saturday night, June 23 starting at 5:30pm at the corner of Park Ave and Camden Rd. We will close Park Ave between Camden Rd and S Tryon Street to set up Food Trucks and Tailgating Games and will set up the movie screen in the vacant lot on the corner of Park Ave and Camden Rd. There will be some tables for eating but please bring your own blanket, bag chairs, etc to make for a fun evening for dinner and a movie.

We have 12 food trucks participating which is tremendous so make certain to come hungry and try a little from several of the trucks! Here are all the trucks so you can see if one of your favorites will be there: Auto Burger and Fry Guys, Napolitano’s, HMG Cart, Dan the Pig Man, Cupcake Delirium, Sticks and Cones, Goody Woody’s, The Tin Kitchen, Maki Taco, Southern Cake Queen, and The Culinary School of Charlotte.

The movie is Captain America, which is fitting since the Heroe’s Convention is in town this weekend. The movie will start once it gets dark enough so close to 8:30/9pm.
