A Park is on the Horizon

Ask anyone in South End what is missing in their neighborhood and one of the top three answers is… a park. Well, I am pleased to share that we are one huge step closer to making that desire become a reality. The Mecklenburg County Park and Rec Dept recently acquired land at the corner of Kingston Ave and S Tryon Street for the future development of a park to serve the Wilmore and South End neighbhorhoods!!! (Yay!!! Thank you Park and Rec!!!) Wilmore was very instrumental in this particular piece of property and Park & Rec liked the location because of it’s ability to serve both neighborhoods. It will still be a while before the park is actually built but you will see Park & Rec making some basic cosmetic improvements to the property (dead tree removal, general landscaping, etc).

We will have a series of neighborhood workshops to help plan the purpose, function and design of this park, and we will send everyone invitations to attend in both Wilmore, South End and Dilworth. It is important that this park reflect the needs and desires of the community and the only way to make that happen is to have the communities engaged from the beginning. It will be several months before we start this process but know it is planned.

Below is a map highlighting the parcels that comprise the park. If you have any questions, please let me know. Ted Boyd tboyd@charlottecentercity.org  More to come…
