Bike Share goes LIVE on Wednesday

Excited for Charlotte B-cycle to launch all 20 stations this Wednesday. There are 2 bike share stations in South End. The one pictured above at the Bland St station and one at East West Station! See the release below for more details.

What:         Charlotte B-cycle system official “Go Live”

200 bikes ride out from the Square

Where:      Trade and Tryon to all 20 stations

When:       Tuesday, July 31, 2012  7:00pm

Charlotte – July 24, 2012 – Charlotte B-cycle made possible by BlueCross and BlueShield of North Carolina is proud to announce that construction of all 20 station docks and 200 bicycles is complete, testing is going well, and we are ready to announce a date for the full system to “go live”.

We will gather 200 riders at the Square on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:00pm. Charlotte B-cycle made possible by BlueCross and BlueShield of North Carolina has invited members of City Council, Mecklenburg County Commission, the bike advocacy community and some local celebrities to join us as we ride the bikes to their docks. The system will open for business at 7:00am on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, manned by volunteers to help explain how the system works and encourage usage.

Coverage of both the “Go Live Ride Out” on Tuesday evening and system start on Wednesday morning is welcome. Contact Moira Quinn for more information.

  2. Just tried this out in Boston this past week. Their program is called Hubway. Very cool. With all the universities they have in their metro area, and the large number of tourists, the availability was limited (i.e. program = successful)
