Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program
The following programs are administered by the City of Charlotte, but made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Each program is designed to reach out directly into our communities to benefit citizens and business owners, as well as promote responsible use of energy and resource management.For more information on any of the below programs, contact Nicole Storey at 704-336-2929.
Commercial Building Retrofit Program (CBRetro) 2012
The City of Charlotte’s CBRetro Program is designed to improve the energy efficiency of existing, for-profit commercial buildings and multi-family communities within the City’s Business Corridor Revitalization Geography by providing partial reimbursement for energy efficiency improvements. Examples of these improvements include energy audits, insulation, lighting, HVAC, windows and doors, weatherization and solar PV.
The goals of the program are to:
- Create jobs & expand employment opportunities;
- Increase energy efficiency of existing structures by 15% or greater;
- Expand housing options by improving the energy efficiency of existing apartment communities;
- Promote sustainable behaviors.
For a limited time the CBRetro grant is being offered in conjunction with the recently expanded Façade Improvement Program. In addition to energy efficiency improvements, this opportunity will allow for enhancements to a building or community’s exterior. Façade Improvement Grants are available to projects within the Business Corridor Revitalization Geography that are located on or visible from major thoroughfares.
The maximum grant award shall be dependent on the number of projects selected and funds available at the time of proposal acceptance. Funds shall be distributed as reimbursement only; funds will not be distributed in advance of improvements.
To apply for the CBRetro Program see the required documents below. Submittal deadline is September 14, 2012.
Balfour Beatty installed shades on their windows that are programmed to lower and raise to provide the most optimum light at the most efficient energy cost. They also installed sun-lights, cutting holes in their roof to have sunlight come through.
