A Great Weekend to Spend in South End

Got weekend plans? The weather is going to be great and in addition to the great shops and restaurants in South End, we have some great events happening all weekend in the neighborhood.

First up happens tonight with Food Truck Friday at the corner of Camden and Park Ave. Eight trucks are scheduled to set up around 5pm and will be out until 9pm. You can make wine and beer purchases from Common Market or Phat Burrito and bring them over to the lot to enjoy. There are many great shops and galleries in this area so once you’ve enjoyed dinner…take a stroll down Camden and Park.

Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always associated Saturday mornings with food and that holds true now as I don’t feel Saturday morning is complete without a visit to the farmer’s market. Two great options for local food shopping is Atherton Market and Healthy Home Market. The first a farmers market and the second a local health food grocery store but both totally committed to LOCAL food. There is usually a food truck set up serving breakfast at the market and they have a new waffle vendor now that you definitely want to check out.

Also on Saturday is the Dilworth Jubilee running from 11am to 3pm in Latta Park. It’s a Free event so after you’ve shopped the Atherton or Healthy Home Market…head to the Jubilee. Details

If College Football is more your speed, we have no shortage of great locations to enjoy good food, a cold beverage and college football. All American Pub, Gin Mill, World of Beer, Tavern on the Tracks, The Liberty, Tyber Creek, Zucca’s, Icehouse, Mac’s, and Triple C Brewing Co are all great spots. Check out Big Ben’s if you prefer the real football.

South End is home to many great furniture and home furnishings stores so make certain you check out South End Exchange, Modern Fabrics, Abode, Ferguson’s, By Design, Interior Motives, High Cotton Home Company, Post and Gray, The Boulevard, Sofa Shack, The Furniture Connector, Southend Trading Co, DCI Home, Renaissance Tile and the Hawkins Street Design Center. So many great options and many are holding sales this weekend!

3rd Annual South End / Dilworth Chili Cook Off is happening in the Atherton Mill parking lot and kicks off at Noon. Over 22 competitors have signed up thus far and there will be games, live music and cold beverages for everyone to come out and have a good time. No Panthers Game this Sunday so no Excuses!
