South End is Growing!

The seeds of development were planted years ago before the economy tanked and a trip to the southern end of South End will let you know those seeds are finally growing. New development is rising up from the ground around the Remount and South Blvd area with 4 multifamily developments and 1 commercial construction project currently underway. There are a total of 8 projects currently under construction in South End and several more in various planning phases but wanted to share about this development around the New Bern Station area. Approximately 3200 people call South End home and expect close to 1000 new units in this area.

Let me take you on a virtual walking tour. If you get off the light rail at the New Bern Station and look south you will see the image below of the Fountains at South End being developed by Proffitt Dixon Partners. Once completed will bring 208 new units steps away from the New Bern light rail stop, Charlotte’s Furniture District (to furnish those apartments) and Triple C Brewing Company.

Start walking north on the Rail Trail and look to your left (west) and you’ll see the beginnings of Silos South End by Woodfield Investments. This project will bring another 279 units and will connect Poindexter Dr from South Blvd to Youngblood with a light rail gated crossing. They have some fun plans for the Silos as well. Sadly, we had to remove the vinyl art on the Silos due to graffiti but new art will be added as well as some cool improvements to the Silos so stay tuned.

Across from the Silos on the east side of the light rail you can see the concrete parking deck that is the start of Colonial Reserve at South End. This project will bring 353 new units to South End and is across the street from Healthy Home Market.

When you are standing on the Rail Trail at the intersection of Remount Rd and look north west you will see Junction 1504 which already has some units completed and started leasing. Once complete will offer 280 units along the light rail.

From this position if you were to look right (east) you would see construction happening at the corner of Remount and South Blvd next to Mac’s Speed Shop. This site will be the new home for Long Animal Hospital. Along the light rail on the east side is a new retail development which is home to Canine Cafe, a newly expanded Fight Gone Mad, just opened Good Bottle Co and soon to open Penn Station East Coast Subs. You also have the Sedgefield Shopping Center across South Blvd as well as Mac’s BBQ so lots of great offerings for new residents.
