We have two great food markets in South End: Atherton Market and Healthy Home Market. Both markets offer a great shopping experience and have wonderful events happening today. HHM has a great Oktoberfest beer tasting happening today (see flier). Lots of great events happening at the farmers market so see below but have your calendar handy cause a lot of events you will not want to miss.
What’s happening this week at the Atherton Market?
Autumn is working out to be very “event-ful” for us. From First Fridays to cooking demos to music and classes, there will be more reasons than ever to visit the Atherton Market. Pull out your calendars, and get ready for the rundown.
Saturday, October 20th is our Halloween Costume Parade and Pumpkin Decorating Contest. For $5 you will get a pumpkin and access to acrylic paints and other decorative items. You can also bring your own decorations, but the creative work has to be done while you are at the market. There will be four age categories: 5 and under; 6 through 10; 11-14 and 15 and up. Rules will be posted this week at the market, and the judging will take place on Tuesday evening, October 23 by a group of food bloggers who have been invited to the market for a special event. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, October 24th and you can pick up your pumpkin until 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 27th.
Next Wednesday, October 24th is Food Day 2012. We are going to celebrate with a live rendition of the beloved book Stone Soup. At 10 am and again at noon we will read the book and then actually make Stone Soup with Chef Max Parker! This will be fun for kids of all ages. There will also be homesteading demos by Cluck Around, including cheese making and fermentation, and various tastings around the market.

Friday, November 24th– Christmas Trees arrive!
Friday, December 7 – First Friday Holiday Arts Market
Saturday, December 15th – Nose to Tail Underground Dinner featuring Chefs David Quintana and Geoff Blount (Stay tuned for details coming soon on reservations and tickets!)
We also have various field trips, playgroups, and community events filling up the calendar, so we’re going to be busy.
Of course the finest feature at the Atherton Market is our vendors and their products. New this week you’ll find lamb bratwurst from Windy Hill Farm, and a gift-worthy line of jams at Simply Local from Copper Pot and Wooden Spoon, including flavors like Strawberry-Rhubarb and Roasted Red Pepper and Peach Jam. Rice is also in stock again, so make sure you pay her a visit this week. Grab a pumpkin latte from Monk’s Groovy Beans and enjoy a few moments of peace before you get on with your day.
