Found: a found object assemblage art showcase by Culture Initiative

Culture Initiative is celebrating their 4-year anniversary this Saturday with another incredible show at AKA Creative called Found. I went to last years show and was blown away. Once I entered AKA Creatives space I asked myself several times, “Am I really in Charlotte?” The people, the art, the musicians, the dj’s, the space…all combined for a tremendous sensory experience. Check out the video below and you can read my post from a year ago about the 3-year anniversary show.

Culture Initiative Celebrates Four Years

CHARLOTTE, NC–Local arts movement Culture Initiative announces their four-year anniversary party, Found on December 15, 2012 at AKA Creative (316 Remount Road).  Found will feature over 60 artists as well as live music from regional bands and djs.  Doors open at 7:30pm.

The title of the event Found, is closely tied to the assemblage pieces that will be on display during this event. Assemblage is an artistic process that uses found objects in new ways, allowing the artists and audience to find meaning in unconventional arrangements.

In addition to assemblage art, the event will showcase a wide array of musical talent.  Performances by local band Sinners and Saints, Charleston singer/songwriter Rachel Kate, and Columbia group The Black Iron Gathering will lend an organic feel to the event while DJs That Guy Smitty and Justin Aswell will spin records in the gallery.

Culture Initiative was founded in 2008 by Joel Tracey and Arthur Brouthers in hopes of expanding the art community in Charlotte.  Using a grassroots approach, Culture Initiative strive for artist involvement and encourages them to reach outside of their comfort zone by issuing theme centered challenges with each of their showcases.  Past events have included numerous gallery showcases and multimedia exhibitions.
