What’s happening this week at the Atherton Market?

This is the last newsletter until after Christmas, so before I continue let me say that we appreciate each and every one of you, and wish you peace and joy for the Season.  The power of community is making itself known here as well as in many other places.  We look forward to watching ours grow in 2013 and extending our reach and offerings in exciting new ways.  Thanks to you, 2012 has been a banner year.

We’ve made an adjustment to our holiday hours, as some travel plans have changed and unpredictable recent weather slowed down growth in the fields.  We also have several vendors struggling with illness who could use an extended rest.  So after this Saturday we will be closed until Saturday, December 29th.  We trust that many of you will be spending time with family and even on the road, so we hope that the closing isn’t a tremendous inconvenience.  Please do come stock up this week and plan ahead a little!  I will send out a newsletter late next week with an update on what to expect when we reopen.

This upcoming Saturday should be tons of fun!  Chef Thomas Carrig on board to do a cooking demonstration on the grill, weather permitting.  We’ll post the “theme” to Facebook later this week, but if you’ve attended his demonstrations before you know you won’t want to miss the samples that will be ready around 11 am.

I hope you’re gathering up your dull knives, scissors and other blades, because Gary with A Finer Edge is still on target to be with us this Saturday beginning at 9am.  Find his red, white and blue truck parked outside near the front.  We are very happy to have him back!

Several of our vendors will be adding hours this week to make it convenient to do your holiday shopping with us, so check individual Web sites and Facebook pages for news and schedules.  Many of them are also working together to make more products available during the week, so make sure to ask if there is something in particular you are seeking.

Simply Local, Essential Soap, Whispering Willow and Cardais Gourmet are offering gift baskets, and both Simply Local and Cardais Gourmet don’t mind incorporating products from other vendors in their packaging.  Get creative and shop small!  Also – stay tuned to Facebook for news of visiting vendors and last minute offers and mini-events.

We’ve just joined Pinterest to showcase photos of the market, as well as photos of our farmers, chefs and market inspirations.  If you are on Pinterest and post pictures of the market or things related to the market, let me know so that we can repin them and grow our following there.   I’m just getting to know Pinterest, so I’m also happy for you to share user tips and tricks.
