South End is proud to be a sponsor of Charlotte Craft Beer Week 2013 and we hope that when you think of Craft Beer in Charlotte, South End is the neighborhood that comes to mind. Starting back in 1988, the Dilworth/South End neighborhood pioneered breweries in Charlotte with the launch of Dilworth Brewing Company in what is now Sutton House on the corner of East and Kenilworth. In the mid 90′s, South End Brewery and Smokehouse opened in what is now Icehouse in Atherton Mill. The equipment from South End Brewery is now used by OMB and in August of 2012 South End welcomed the opening of Triple C Brewing Company.
South End offers a wide range of craft beer offerings from bottle shops, bars, restaurants and retail outlets. Mac’s, The Liberty, Common Market, Good Bottle Company, Healthy Home Market, Tyber Creek Pub, Icehouse, All American Pub and World of Beer are just a few of the establishments committed to offering great craft beer selections.
Charlotte Craft Beer Week will be an incredible celebration of craft beer throughout all of Charlotte, and we are excited for the many events happening in South End March 15-24. Back by popular demand, we’ll have commemorative CCBW and South End tasting glasses and pint glass koozies available for free at CCBW events happening in South End. It’s about that time again! Don’t miss a single day of the best craft beer week in North Carolina, the 4th Annual Charlotte Craft Beer Week
! During the ten days of March 15th – 24th, you’ll have access to over 100 beer events all around the Queen City.
CCBW was founded with the intention of sharing the craft beer message. With the help of craft beer industry groups and businesses (which abound in Charlotte), it offers North Carolina some of the best hop and barley themed events in the state. CCBW also aims to educate new and seasoned participants on the craft beer scene so there will be plenty of opportunities to sharpen and expand your beer knowledge. Each event is selected and crafted purposefully to incorporate the many facets of craft beer culture.
In anticipation of the upcoming festivities, Darrin Pikarsky, the founder of Charlotte Craft Beer Week & The Charlotte Beer Club, says; “I’m very excited to live in a city that has seen rapid growth in the craft beer industry. The Charlotte region is now known on a national level for it’s great craft beers. Two of Charlotte’s own breweries brought home medals from The Great American Beer Festival in Denver Colorado recently. Charlotte Craft Beer Week is going to celebrate that success and many of the best craft beers from across The United States!”
During the 2013 CCBW, you’ll find a diversity of events that let participants sample the many styles of craft beer, enjoy delicious beer and food pairings, learn about craft beer in Charlotte and beyond, and just have a good time. The South End district will host dozens of events throughout the week including the infamous Freak Fest. Beer Week will allow you to get up close and personal to Charlotte’s own supply of craft beer.
The ten day celebration begins March 15th with two exceptional kick off events!
