What’s Happening at the Market this Week?
Can you believe we’ve been open for three years? It’s time to celebrate! This Saturday we’ll bring together old friends and some new ones to host one of the biggest events in our history. For a preview of our visit from special guest Peter Hatch (pictured right), listen to the Charlotte Talks broadcast that aired this morning. On Friday he’ll be speaking at the Union County Master Gardener’s Conference, which you don’t have to be a Master Gardener to attend! Peter will then be here at the market to say a few words at 9:45 on Saturday, and then sign copies of his latest book until 11 am. We’ll be entertained by the Mike Strauss Band from 10 am until noon, and will enjoy cooking demos from Jim Noble’s restaurant the King’s Kitchen beginning around 11. We’ll have activities for the kids, as well as a special craft opportunity with Ms. Ann. A morning full of fun!
If you love a good party and the best coffee in Charlotte, you won’t want to miss the grand opening of the Not Just Coffee Shop here at the Atherton Market on Tuesday, June 11th from 6:30 pm until around 9:00 pm. We’ll have a food truck, King of Pops, beverages of all kinds and lots more to welcome the crew of Not Just Coffee with South End style. If you’ve been to the market in recent weeks you’ve witnessed the evolution of the amazing coffee bar that will soon be operating expanded hours.
The next event on our calendar is another great Nourishing Charlotte workshop! On Friday, June 14th Carolyn Erickson will clue you in on nourishing food short cuts to prepare delicious, nutrient-dense, family-friendly meals in a hurry. All recipes are Gluten-Free / Grain-Free / Paleo / Refined Sugar-Free … PLUS Options for Dairy-free and Egg-Free. More information here: http://www.nourishingcharlotte.com/cooking-classes/workshop/
Save the date! We are hosting a Relish Carolina dinner on Thursday, June 27th. Check out their Web site at http://relishcarolina.org for photos of the unique events they’ve done in the past. You’ll get first dibs on the tickets via a special mailing to the list. And then you can share it with your friends!
Our Third Annual Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast was a huge success on Saturday, raising more than $1400 dollars to help the causes that the Firefighter’s Auxiliary has chosen to support this year, including the family of Michael Gross, the firefighter whose wife was injured at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. We had a great time visiting with our local heroes and eating pancakes, as well as loving on the official fire dog Chief.
